Sir Dudley Digges from the first crop of Gio Ponti, won the prestigious CAN$1million Queen's Plate over ten furlongs at Woodbine earlier today. Racing in the colors of Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the Mike Maker trainee was very well ridden by jockey of the moment Julien Leparoux who had the colt in a good position throughout, racing early in 6th, progressing around the far turn between horses and running on gamely down the stretch to win by a half length. Post-race winning owner Ken Ramsey stated "You can quote me, we are going for the Triple Crown, I think this horse can run on grass, Tapeta, dirt, you name it." The 157th Queen's Plate run over a Tapeta surface is the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown and is followed by the Prince of Wales Stakes on dirt at Fort Erie on July 29th and culminates in the Breeders Stakes on grass back at Woodbine on August 21.
Mike Maker trains Sir Dudley Digges for the Ramseys and the colt was bred by Bernard and Karen McCormack in Ontario.
