In a manner reminiscent of her sire Gio Ponti, Lou, a two-year-old filly showed an impressive turn of foot to win a maiden special weight at Indiana Downs earlier today. The debutant was bred by her owner Thad Ackel and won over five furlongs of the turf track for trainer Paul Holthus. At the bell, jockey Rodney Prescott found himself towards the rear of the twelve strong field but the grey/roan filly made relentless progress rounding the home turn to pip the leader Miss Ann Can at the wire. Lou's owner had expressed some reservations about his filly over five panels as he believed that whatever transpired today she would be more effective over further real estate. Sprouting wings late on like Gio Ponti did when he was racing, she appreciated the fast turf to quicken with winning intent all the way down the stretch and claim the spoils. Mr. Ackel intimated post-race that a trip to the Keeneland October meet may be on the agenda for this exciting filly.
