Dec 11th, 09 Exciting Son of Danzig Relocates to Kentucky
Castleton Lyons is pleased to announce that the stallion
Modigliani will re-locate from Greentree Stud in Ireland
to Kentucky
for the 2010 season.
Mr. Shane Ryan, president of Castleton Lyons, said “We
believe that Modigliani has proven that he has the potential to become another
great sire by Danzig, one of the most
important sons of the great Northern Dancer. Modigliani’s first crop included
Magritte, a Champion two-year-old filly. We have confidence in his ability as a
sire and have strongly supported Modigliani over the last couple of breeding
seasons. Modigliani now has a wonderful opportunity in Kentucky to be bred to more quality mares
from our well established Castleton Lyons broodmare band. This stallion has
demonstrated from his small earlier books in Ireland that he is capable of
siring speedy 2-year-olds which would clearly suit the American breeding and
racing programs. Modigliani previously stood in Ireland
at Michael Bowe’s Greentree Stud in CountyTipperary, where they
accomplished great work in promoting the stallion’s popularity and breeding
good books of mares. As a racehorse, Modigliani was trained initially by Aidan
O’Brien in Ireland.
As a two-year-old, he was placed 3rd at Royal Ascot in the Group 3
Coventry Stakes over 6 furlongs, progressing as a three year old to win the
historic Group 3 Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh over 7 furlongs. As a four year
old, Modigliani was trained by Niall O’Callaghan to win an allowance race at
Keeneland. He will be available to breeders at Castleton Lyons for a special
introductory fee of $5,000, November 1st terms”.
