Mike Ryan Pays $475,000 to Top the 5th Day
Bloodstock agent, Mike Ryan, made some noise by spending $475,000 for a BERNSTEIN colt on Saturday's Session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The colt, out of unraced mare LIFE HAPPENED (Stravinsky), is from the same family as graded stakes winners MISS SLEWPY and DISCO RICO. Consigned by Moreau Bloodstock International, the colt was a $55,000 weanling purchase at the 2008 Keeneland November sale. Xavier Moreau bought the colt to pinhook and hit a homerun that provided a sparkle to an otherwise lack luster yearling sale.
Keeneland Officials were not surprised by the popularity of the son of BERNSTEIN. "This colt is a really nice individual. Our inspection team loved him when they saw him in Florida" said Keeneland director of sales, Geoffrey Russell.
